Great Britain judo shake-up a blow to Colin Oates

Oates has secured European bronze and the national title this year

Colin Oates has expressed his disappointment at a reshuffle in Great Britain's judo setup.

Head coach Patrick Roux was one of three members to fall victim to a poor showing at the World Championships.

The 28-year-old from Norwich told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It's a big loss for me, I work with the head coach quite a lot, maybe more than the other players.

"For me it's more of a setback, but a lot of the work we've done will stick with me and I can take it forward."

Performance director Margaret Hicks and senior women's coach Jane Bridge joined Roux in leaving the British Judo Association, with Romanian Daniel Lascau coming in as performance director.

The changes were made after Britain failed to take a medal at August's World Championships in Paris and occur less than a year before the London 2012 Olympics.

"I think it's a consequence of last year when we weren't successful and this year it slipped again, I think people were expecting better," added Oates, who finished a career best fifth in the under-66kg in Paris.

"It's a massive change at a late stage, I have to just keep focusing and looking forwards."
