Ipswich Witches have finalised the signing of Mildenhall Fen Tigers prodigy Cameron Heeps.

The 16-year-old Australian will make the step up from National to Premier League following a debut season with a 10-point average.

"There's been a lot of hype about the lad," Witches director of speedway Chris Louis told BBC Radio Suffolk, external.

"It's fabulous news he'll be coming on board to ride with the Witches and I know he's looking forward to it."

Heeps, who will double-up for the Fen Tigers should the 2012 rules allow it, was being looked at by other clubs.

But Ipswich's connections with Suffolk neighbours Mildenhall helped ease negotiations.

"There was a lot of interest, but we've worked with Cameron at Mildenhall and he's been at Ipswich every week," Louis added.

"I think it was always going to happen, he has been approached by other clubs, but it's about being surrounded by people he trusts."
