Indianapolis 500: Ed Carpenter is third IndyCar driver in bad crash

Indianapolis 500 driver Ed Carpenter was unhurt after his car crashed into a wall and flipped over during practice for next week's race.

Carpenter was the third Chevrolet driver in a week to have gone airborne during a crash.

That has led to concerns over a new aerodynamic design on the cars before the 500-mile race on 24 May.

Team-mates Josef Newgarden and Helio Castroneves also escaped injury despite being in serious crashes last week.

Carpenter said those accidents were "definitely concerning" and following his own smash he told the Indianapolis Star newspaper:, external "I definitely think we have an issue going on that we clearly didn't have in the past.

"Hopefully this series will be smart and react sooner rather than later so we don't have to keep seeing things happen like this."
