Surrey Storm defeated Hertfordshire Mavericks for the second year running

Surrey Storm secured a 55-42 victory over Hertfordshire Mavericks in front of a record Superleague crowd of 6,000 at the Copperbox Arena in London.

Storm edged to a 52-50 win in last year's inaugural Netball London Live - held in round seven of the competition.

But the attendance was doubled in size this season, making it the biggest ever domestic netball crowd in the UK.

And Surrey came out on top once again to keep up the pressure on league leaders Manchester Thunder.

Last year's losing grand finalists Storm went into Saturday's contest two spots above the fourth-placed Mavericks, with Yorkshire Jets squeezing in between them after their 60-48 win over Celtic Dragons.

Hertfordshire hoped to bounce back from last weekend's defeat by the improving Jets, but endured a difficult start against Surrey, going in five points behind at the end of the first quarter after a shooting masterclass from Storm's Rachel Dunn.

However, the Mavericks fought back before half-time and, after running in five unanswered points, they went in level at 28-28.

But just as the two-time title winners began to take a hold of the game, shooter Kadeen Corbin was forced off with a knee injury and they fell 41-36 behind in the third quarter.

And while the Mavericks struggled to make it count in the semi-circle, Surrey got stronger and Dunn looked unstoppable under the posts, helping her side to a comfortable 13-goal victory at full-time.

Elsewhere in round eight, Thunder kept up their unbeaten record this season with a 64-31 win over Team Northumbria, while Bath narrowly beat Loughborough Lightning 45-43 on Friday.
