Netball World Cup: Geva Mentor to lead England in Australia

England head coach Tracey Neville has named her 12-strong squad for this summer's Netball World Cup.

Defender Geva Mentor, 30, will captain the side in Sydney in August while attacker Pamela Cookey, 30, who passed 100 international caps in May, is named vice-captain.

Neville has included experienced players Tamsin Greenway, 32, and Sonia Mkoloma, 36 in the final squad.

Twenty-year-old student Helen Housby also makes the cut.

However, sisters Kadeen and Sasha Corbin only make the reserve list.

Mentor, who was named the world's best netballer in 2014, plays at club level in Australia's ANZ league and has recently undergone knee surgery, but is expected to be fit in time to lead England.

Neville, a former England international herself, took interim charge of the team in March, following the dismissal of Anna Mayes.

The World Cup is contested every four years and is seen as the biggest event in international netball.

England were runners-up in 1975, and have finished third on four occasions, while hosts and holders Australia have won the title 10 times.

Neville's side start their campaign on 7 August against Scotland in Pool B, before facing Samoa and Jamaica.
