Career highlights

Robertson and mixed doubles partner Gail Emms became the first Britons ever to reach an Olympic badminton final in 2004, eventually earning a silver medal. The pair went on to win gold at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games in 2006.

Other career

When Emms retired after the 2008 Olympics, Robertson paired up with Jenny Wallwork, who has since become his partner off the court as well. They won their first title at the 2010 national championships and earned bronze at the 2010 European Championships. Robertson plays men's doubles with Anthony Clark.

Career lowlights

Nottingham-born Robertson has had several operations on his ankle, which he initially injured prior to the 2005 World Championships, and says he might have retired had it not been for the chance to compete at the Olympics in London.

After he and Wallwork were upset in their opening match at the 2011 World Championships, Robertson appeared to criticise Badminton England when he tweeted: "World class performance needs world class support; average treatment gets an average outcome."
