Asafa Powell profile

Athletics (Men's 100m)
Career highlight
Remarkably Powell's best individual result at World or Olympic level is bronze in the World Championships. He does however have individual gold in the 100m to his name, won at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Other career
Powell held the world record for nearly three years between 2005 and 2008. He has a reputation for being undermined by nerves on the biggest stages. Since the arrival of Usain Bolt on the world stage, he has found him playing a supporting role as the nearly man of Jamaican sprinting.
To characterise him as merely the second best sprinter in Jamaica would be a huge disservice to his talent and the consistency of his times over his career, but with Yohan Blake also in the ascendancy, Powell's star is possibly on the wane.
Did you know?
Powell holds the record for the most sub-10 second 100m. In September 2011 he had run under that magic marker 76 times. He is also the only man to run under that marker 15 times in a season, in 2008.
