North Korea claimed their third weightlifting gold medal at London 2012 as Rim Jong Sim won the women's 69kg title by a 5kg margin.

Rim, 19, lifted 115kg in the snatch and 146kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 261kg.

Romania's Roxana Daniela Cocos took silver with 256kg on lower body weight, ahead of Belarusian Maryna Shkermankova in the bronze medal position.

Great Britain's Natasha Perdue lifted a total of 205kg to finish in 12th place.

The British champion managed 92kg in the snatch and 113kg in the clean and jerk, despite suffering a leg spasm which prevented an attempt at 115kg.

"The crowd were fantastic," said Perdue, whose father Terry competed at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games.

"It feels great to be an Olympian and I'm so pleased to have got a total. It means so much to get to follow in my father's footsteps.

"I'm hugely disappointed to get the spasm in my leg, but after failing with my first lift I was determined to come back on stage and get a successful lift."

Perdue, 37, was unable to realise her ambition of finishing 10th to match the Olympic performances of her late father, who died 14 years ago.

He finished 10th in Mexico in 1968 and Munich four years later and won silver and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games.

"It meant the world to me to do that and obviously I couldn't help but think about my father and what he achieved in two Olympics," she said.

"There was some debate about whether I should come out for the clean and jerk, but I'm so glad I did and although there's a mix of disappointment and happiness I feel that I went out on a high."

The pre-tournament gold medal favourite, Russia's Oksana Slivenko, withdrew from the Olympics last week after suffering an injury in training.

North Korea are the most successful nation so far in the weightlifting, with three golds and a bronze. Kim Un Guk claimed the men's 62kg gold and Yun Chol Om won the men's 56kg category.
