Irish cycling: McCann retires after London time trial

David McCann retires after finishing 27th in the Olympic time trial on Wednesday.
Belfast rider David McCann has retired from international competition after finishing 27th in Wednesday's Olympic time trial at Hampton Court Palace.
The 39-year-old was Ireland's only representative in the event and he completed the 49km course in 56:03.77.
Bradley Wiggins secured a British record seventh Olympic medal by winning gold in 50:39.54, while team-mate Chris Froome took bronze.
McCann came in 55th in the Olympic road race on Saturday.
McCann finished ahead of Irish team-mate Nicolas Roche (89th), who was 12th overall in the Tour de France earlier this month.
Daniel Martin was one place further back in 90th, although all three had the same time of 5:46.37.
Wiggins completed a Tour de France and Olympic double with a sensational ride, finishing 42 seconds ahead of Germany's world champion Tony Martin.
