Widnes' Rhys Hanbury eyes Super League play-off spot

Hanbury scored four tries in nine Super League appearances last season

Widnes half-back Rhys Hanbury believes they are capable of making the Super League play-offs this season.

The 26-year-old Australian joined from Crusaders in the close season ahead of Widnes' return to the top flight, external.

Hanbury told BBC Radio Merseyside, external: "We want to compete in the top eight and make our home a fortress.

"All the boys will be striving to have a good season and we'll take it from there. We are a new young team and I think we'll go well this season."

He added: "We've gelled pretty good so far. We've had two friendlies, one against Warrington which was hard for us.

"Against Swinton I think we were a bit scratchy at the start but I think we will come together nicely. We've also one or two players to come back into the side."
