St Helens and Hull FC to compete for Steve Prescott Cup

St Helens and Hull FC will play for the inaugural Steve Prescott Cup this year in tribute to the late full-back.

Prescott, who played for both Super League clubs, passed away in November 2013 at the age of 39 after battling against a rare form of stomach cancer.

The Cup, awarded annually, will go to the club with the highest aggregate score from the two regular-season games between the teams.

The first game this year is at Langtree Park on 21 February.

Prescott was given only months to live when he was diagnosed with pseudomyxoma peritonei in 2006, but battled the disease and in 2009 was awarded an MBE.

He also raised thousands of pounds for charity through the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Martin Blondel, general manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation, said: "We would like to thank both clubs for dedicating the first prestigious home game of the season to Steve's memory.

"It is quite clear that the intentions of St Helens and Hull FC will see Steve's legacy continue forever and there is no more fitting tribute than the Steve Prescott Cup."
