Super League: Huddersfield Giants 38-22 London Broncos

McGillvary began his Huddersfield career in 2007

Huddersfield beat London to secure their eighth win in nine matches.

The Giants scored four tries in the first 30 minutes, with Scott Grix, Brett Ferres, Jermaine McGillvary and Joe Wardle all going over.

James Cunningham's try for Broncos closed the gap to 22-6 at half-time.

McGillvary and Wardle added their second tries and Jodie Broughton also went over for the hosts, with Josh Drinkwater, Denny Solomona and Mason Caton-Brown replying for London.

Broncos are now without a win in 17 Super League matches, while Huddersfield move up to fifth, two points behind leaders Wigan.

Craig Kopczak found the gap and fed Grix on the left who scored the first points of the game in the week he signed a new two-year deal with the Giants.

A great pick-up by Danny Brough, who also kicked both conversations, enabled Ferres to run in under the posts as the home side opened up a 12-point lead.

A well-worked team try saw McGillvary step away from the London defence and power over, with Brough kicking the extras, but he surprisingly missed a subsequent attempt at goal after setting up Wardle.

Cunningham outpaced the Huddersfield defence to get London's first try and Drinkwater's conversion closed the gap to 16 points at the break.

Leroy Cudjoe found space in the London defence and McGillvary was left free to race in for his second of the afternoon, although Brough missed again with the conversion.

Just as the hosts seemed to be racing away, Drinkwater was at the heart of a London comeback as the gap was closed to 10 points midway through the second half.

He first converted his own try after racing away following a dropped ball by Cudjoe and his kick then set up Solomona, who jumped high to collect and go over. Drinkwater's kick was, however, off target this time.

But that was as good as it got for the Broncos as Giants scored two tries in a minute.

Broughton went over in the left corner and Wardle raced in for this second try - both were converted by Brough to open a 22-point lead.

Caton-Brown's try, converted by Drinkwater, was merely a consolation for the visitors.

Huddersfield boss Paul Anderson:

"I thought we won on talent and a few one-off pieces of brilliance.

"I've not had to scream and shout. The players don't need me to tell them that wasn't good enough.

"The challenge is to improve week-on-week. It shouldn't be too hard for the players to improve on that display."

London Broncos coach Joe Grima:

"You can't give any team a 20-point start, let alone a side like Huddersfield Giants.

"There's got to be a wooden spoonist in every competition.

"We'll be doing our best to avoid it."
