Castleford's Daryl Clark named Man of Steel

Twenty-one-year-old Castleford hooker Daryl Clark has been named as Man of Steel and Super League's young player of the year for 2014.

It is only the third time in the 37-year history of the Man of Steel awards that one player has won both awards.

Clark, who will move to Warrington in 2015, beat Leeds' Jamie Peacock, St Helens' James Roby and future Wolves team-mate Chris Hill to the main prize.

His current coach, Daryl Powell, won the coach of the year accolade.

It capped a season in which Castleford fell just short of team honours, losing to Leeds in the Challenge Cup final and narrowly missing out on finishing top of the league for the first time in their 88-year history.

The Man of Steel award, which has been renamed the Steve Prescott Man of Steel in honour of the former England international who died from stomach cancer in November 2013, is chosen by a five-strong panel including a former winner and representatives from the players' union and media after a poll of every Super League player.
