Super League: Leeds Rhinos 38-6 Widnes Vikings

Leeds Rhinos have won both of their first two games in the 2015 Super League season

Leeds Rhinos continued their 100% start to the season with a comfortable victory over Widnes Vikings.

The two teams exchanged tries in a tight first half, Zak Hardaker giving Leeds the lead before Manase Manuokafoa levelled for the visitors.

Ryan Hall powered over from close in after the interval and Adam Cuthbertson went over to put the Rhinos in charge.

Tom Briscoe, Danny McGuire, Kallum Watkins and Kevin Sinfield all went over as the hosts cruised to victory.

An edgy first 40 minutes gave little indication of the Leeds domination that was to follow later in the match.

Briscoe collected a grounded pass from Stevie Ward on halfway before breaking the Vikings line and feeding full-back Hardaker to race under the posts, but the Rhinos' lead was short-lived as Manuokafoa powered over from close range.

Hall restored Leeds' advantage after the interval when he powered over in the corner after the ball had moved through the hands of McGuire, Carl Ablett and Joel Moon.

Cuthbertson charged onto Paul Aiton's pass and through the tackle of Chris Clarkson, on loan at Widnes from Leeds, on his way to extending the lead.

Sinfield missed both conversions but it mattered little as the home side made sure of the two competition points 12 minutes from time through Briscoe's thrilling 60-metre dash down the right wing.

McGuire pounced on an error from Sinfield's towering kick, before Watkins touched down after taking a pass from Briscoe.

Leeds winger Briscoe was again the provider for the final try of the night, captain Sinfield backing up his team-mate to complete a resounding victory.

Leeds head coach Brian McDermott said: "I think there are a few positives to take out of it, but we made it tougher than it needed to be.

"Widnes came with a bit of a dogged mentality. They slowed us down around the ruck and got penalised a few times, rightly so.

"That was their tactic and I don't really blame them for that. We had to adjust and I thought it took us too long to react."

Widnes head coach Denis Betts said: "You've got to give credit to the Leeds attack and the way they play the game.

"If you were just here to watch a game and had no emotional connection, it would have been great to watch, the way they played at the end.

"The lads are disappointed because we worked so hard and defended our line really, really well for long periods of that game against a very talented, attacking team."
