Wales and Scarlets centre Scott Williams says he has been offered a national dual contract (NDC) with his region and the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).

The 24-year-old has won 27 Wales caps and would "like to" secure his future on such a deal in the future.

He told Scrum V: "I've been offered a contract, but... I'm under contract until next season as well so it's something that I'd like to do.

"I'm sure some stuff will pan out over the next couple of months or whatever."

If a WRU-Scarlets deal can be struck for Williams, he would join Wales captain Sam Warburton, Dan Lydiate, Tyler Morgan, Hallam Amos, Rhodri Jones and Jake Ball who have already signed dual contracts.

Williams, who leads Scarlets in the Pro12 at Glasgow on Friday, 9 January, added: "You'll see more boys getting on them, I think.

"I think it is the way forward, but I think they've got a little bit of work to do."

The creation of dual contracts was part of a £60m deal between the WRU and the four Welsh regions over funding and governance of the game in Wales.

The WRU holds the primacy of the contracts, with players being released for an agreed number of games for their region.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland, a key figure in the creation of the contracts, revealed in November that 12 players had been offered such deals.

Cardiff Blues flanker and national team captain Warburton signed a central contract with the WRU in January 2014.

Flanker Lydiate joined Ospreys after reaching an agreement to leave Racing Metro after just 17 months in France.

Newport Gwent Dragons backs Morgan and Amos and Scarlets prop Jones agreed their deals in December 2014.

Williams' Scarlets team-mate Ball was the sixth player to sign a dual contract, and WRU chief executive Roger Lewis says more announcements are due soon.
