Wales took a huge step towards the World Cup quarter-finals with a 23-13 win over Fiji at the Millennium Stadium on Thursday.

Warren Gatland's team scored tries through scrum-half Gareth Davies and hooker Scott Baldwin, with 13 points from fly-half Dan Biggar's boot, but failed to score four tries in order to claim a bonus point.

After last week's 28-25 win against England, this result means Wales will reach the quarter-finals if Australia beat England at Twickenham on Saturday, but Wales' position is less certain if England win.

Scrum V pundits and former Wales internationals Jonathan Davies and Martyn Williams give their verdicts.

Jonathan Davies - former Wales dual code international

In the end I was just happy with the win.

I thought in the first five minutes I was at the Hong Kong Sevens because Fiji were just throwing the ball about and you knew straight away what their intent was. They had nothing to lose.

Wales had to keep the ball and control the tempo of the game and unfortunately we didn't do that.

I didn't see much of George North and Alex Cuthbert in the second half. When the boys are doing a shift inside, you've got to come in and share the workload and carry the ball.

Wales kicked loosely and kicked too much and didn't win the aerial battle at all.

But I have to say it was a tremendous effort defensively, the way they reorganised themselves and the way they put the tackles in.

If Wales had scored those opportunities in the first half I'm sure they would have gone on to get the bonus point, but I'm not a big fan of the bonus point.

Martyn Williams - former Wales captain

Whether Wales had won at Twickenham last Saturday or not, this was always going to be tough. Wales always struggle against Pacific Island teams. They had an eight-day rest and were keen to knock us over.

It was all about getting that win. The bonus point is what it says on the tin - it's a bonus. At half-time I was very confident Wales would get over the line.

But you've got to give credit to Fiji. Their scrum was on top and they dominated our scrum and poor kicks allowed Fiji back into the game.

I thought they had run out of steam but they kept going and some of their support play and running was sensational.

Thankfully Wales got off to a great start and their kicker missed a few kicks because ultimately for me that was the difference.
