Payne eyes pool swimming after moving to Edinburgh

Two-time open water world champion Keri-Anne Payne will return to pool swimming as she bids for a place at the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow.

Open water swimming is not part of the Commonwealth Games programme.

Payne missed a medal by just 0.4 seconds at London 2012 and says that has motivated her to carry on.

"It's definitely given me the drive and the hunger to keep going," the 24-year-old, who is also relocating from Stockport to Edinburgh, told BBC Sport.

"There is no open water in 2014, which puts a bit of a spanner in the works for me because that's my main event and my main focus.

"So I'll try for the pool and see how it goes," added Payne, who won 400m IM bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

"I'm quite keen on [individual] medley again after having a two-year break from that."

In September, Payne married fellow swimmer David Carry, who announced his retirement from the sport earlier this month.

She admitted it was "tough" to leave her long-term base at Stockport Metro but added that she wanted to be close to her new husband, who is now working in the Scottish capital.

"It just seemed so silly for us to be separate and for me to stay at Stockport with David up here and then only see each other on weekends, when we just got married," admitted Beijing silver medalist Payne.

"I'm still deciding where I'm going to be training but I am so excited about the move to Edinburgh.

"It's something new, it's a complete change and it's one of the most beautiful cities. I absolutely love it."

Payne is unsure whether she will return to open water swimming next year in a bid to reach the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona but will make a decision before the British trials in March.
