Sochi 2014: Norway's Marit Bjoergen wins fourth Olympic gold

Norway's Marit Bjoergen has won her fourth Olympic gold medal with success in the women's 15km skiathlon in Sochi.

The 33-year-old, who is known as the 'Iron Lady', got the better of Sweden's Charlotte Kalla in the closing stages to win in 38 minutes 33.6 seconds - 1.8secs ahead of her rival.

Bjoergen won three golds at the Vancouver Games in 2010 and now has eight medals in total.

Norway's Heidi Weng took bronze - 11.6secs further adrift of Kalla.

Bjoergen, Kalla and Weng were in a group of six athletes who ended the 7.5km classic phase almost together and with only Poland's Justyna Kowalski dropping off the group, it was a five-way fight for medals as the race reached its climax.

Kalla kicked for home on the final climb and Bjoergen was the only athlete to stay with her before overtaking her rival going around the last corner for victory.

"One gold was my goal, so now I can relax a little bit," she said afterwards. "I can enjoy the rest of the games."
