End to End Walk: Record entry for Manx race walk

Waddington is the first man to win four consecutive Parish Walk titles

The record holder for the Isle of Man's End-to-End Walk says it is great for the event to have another record entry.

Jock Waddington said: "It will be the 10th anniversary of the western course and the interest has been fantastic."

In 2010, Waddington took more than six minutes off Sean Hands' record, set back in 2008, finishing in six hours 37 minutes and 29 seconds.

Judith Quane, a relative newcomer to race walking, was the first female home in seven hours 40 minutes.

More than 400 walkers tackled the gruelling 39.2 mile course between the Point of Ayre and the Sound.

This year's race will start at 08:00 BST on Sunday 25 September.

The event is held on long stretches of paved roads passing through Bride, Jurby and Peel before climbing up to Cregneash in the south of the island and ending at the Sound.

Registration for the event closes at midnight on Sunday.
