Coach Roberto Mancini will step up Manchester City's search for a new defender if Vincent Kompany loses his red card appeal, and the champions could target Borussia Dortmund pair Neven Subotic, 24, and Mats Hummels, 24.
Arsenal are trying to sign midfielder Mohamed Diame, 25, from West Ham by offering £3.5m for the Senegal star.
As well as beating Newcastle to the signing of Marseille striker Loic Remy, 26, QPR boss Harry Redknapp is hoping to secure a £8m move for Rennes' midfielder Yann M'Vila, 22, in the next 24 hours.

West Brom's Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie, 31, is still a target for Premier League basement side QPR. The Baggies have already rejected a £2m offer for Odemwingie - who they value at £6m - from Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, as well as his £5m bid for their centre-back Jonas Olsson.

Former Barcelona forward Eidur Gudjohnsen, 34, has moved across the Belgian capital from Cercle Bruges to rivals FC Bruges on a free transfer. The Icelandic player is used to playing on both sides of a local rivalry, having played for both Chelsea and Fulham during his career.
Juventus could offer Lyon up to £8.3m to sign Argentine player Lisandro Lopez, 29. The French side previously turned down a loan bid from the Italians for the striker.
