Eve Muirhead has been named Team GB's chef de mission for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Scottish Olympic champion curler will lead the British team at Milano Cortina in Italy and will be the first Scot to take on the role since Mike Hay in 2018.

Muirhead, 34, appeared at four Games, taking bronze at Sochi 2014 and gold eight years later in Beijing.

"I am truly honoured and delighted to have been asked to be chef de mission for Team GB and I cannot wait to get to work on this project," said Muirhead.

"I’ve seen first hand how talented our winter sports athletes are and our aim should be to unlock that potential when it comes to the Milano Cortina Olympic Games.”

British Olympic Association chair Sir Hugh Robertson described Muirhead as "an outstanding young leader" and added: "We had no hesitation in unanimously agreeing her appointment."

Three-time European champion Muirhead, who was world champion in 2013, retired from competing following her Olympic success in 2022.
