When did a non-Old Firm team last win a Scottish title?

- Published
It has been 40 years since a team other than Rangers or Celtic last won Scottish football's top division.
Aberdeen, then managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, won both the 1983-84 and 1984-1985 titles in what was then the Premier Division.
The north east side also won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1982-83 and the European Super Cup the following season.
Since then, the league titles have been shared almost equally between the two Glasgow giants, with Celtic claiming 22 victories and Rangers 18.

Who has won the most titles?

The last four decades have seen complete dominance of the Scottish league by Rangers and Celtic
Celtic and Rangers are tied for titles at 55 each.
The next closest teams are Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibernian, each with four league title victories.
Following Rangers’ liquidation in 2012 and subsequent placement in the third division of Scottish football, Aberdeen and Motherwell shared the runners-up spots for six years.
Both Glasgow sides have been denied the elusive '10-in-a-row' title run, being stalled by their rivals after a run of nine.
Celtic were the first to come close, beginning their run in the 1965-1966 season and being denied by Rangers in 1974-1975.
Rangers were next with a run from the 1988-89 season before being halted by Celtic in 1997-98.
Celtic then had a run of nine consecutive league titles from the 2011-12 season onwards, before Rangers sealed the league title in the 2020-21 season.
Celtic will now need to win the next six seasons to reach the coveted 10-year title stretch.
Who has won the most domestic cups?
There is a slightly more even spread of Scottish Cup and League Cup victories throughout Scottish teams.
Celtic have claimed 42 Scottish Cups, with Rangers second place after winning 34.
Next is Queens Park with 10 trophies, and then Aberdeen and Hearts with eight apiece.
Rangers lead the way in League Cup titles with 28 trophies, followed by Celtic on 22 and Aberdeen on six.
