Kingussie win league to complete shinty grand slam

Kingussie retained their Premiership title and completed the Grand Slam of all four of shinty’s senior honours with a 3-0 victory on Skye.
A Thomas Borthwick goal in the first half and a second-half double from Ruaridh Anderson saw Kingussie comfortably home.
Having already won the Camanachd, MacAulay and MacTavish Cups, this completed a repeat of their 2022 Grand Slam in a season where Kingussie’s reserves also won the Sutherland Cup.
Caberfeidh’s 2-1 loss at Kyles was also enough to guarantee Kingussie top spot.
Kevin Bartlett put Caberfeidh ahead on the half hour and Luke Thornton equalised just before half time in advance of James Pringle’s winner for Kyles.
Already relegated Glenurquhart departed the top flight following a 9-0 eclipse by Oban Camanachd at Mossfield.
Daniel MacVicar ran riot, scoring a hat trick in either half, with contributions in between from Ross Campbell, Daniel MacCuish and Louie MacFarlane.
Kinlochshiel defeated visitors Newtonmore 2-0 with an Archie MacRae brace in the last six minutes.
On the final day of the National Division programme, Fort William pipped Beauly for the title with a 5-2 defeat of Bute, while their rivals lost 2-0 to Inveraray.
Beauly had led all season but a double from Inveraray’s Fraser Watt midway through the second half at Braeview put the title on a knife edge.
However Fort still had to defeat Bute and they made heavy weather of it until the last quarter hour.
Strikes from Archie MacKinnon and Lachie Shaw were cancelled by Ryan Craig and Craig Fisher for Bute.
However a late surge with goals from Cam Stephen and Ali MacRae before Shaw grabbed his second took the title to An Aird.
Fort return to the top flight after a decade’s absence and will be joined by runners up Beauly.
Glasgow Mid Argyll defeated Col Glen 2-1 in the other second tier game.
