Shinty: Holders Kingussie through to Camanachd Cup final
- Published
Holders Kingussie edged lower league Fort William 3-2 at a rain soaked Spean Bridge to earn the right to meet Lovat in the Tulloch Camanachd Cup final at An Aird on 21 September.
In a greatly reduced Mowi Premiership programme, Oban Camanachd overwhelmed already relegated Glenurquhart 6-0 in Drumnadrochit.
Glasgow Mid Argyll reduced their large backlog of games in the National Division with a 5-2 success at Kilmallie.
A goal rush in the opening eight minutes at Spean Bridge featured Victor Smith giving underdogs Fort William a dream opener before Dylan Borthwick and Savio Genini put Kingussie ahead in advance of Lachie Shaw making it 2-2. And only 20 minutes had elapsed when Borthwick scored what turned out to be the winner.
Kingussie dominated the second half but failed to extend their lead thanks to two penalty saves from Borthwick by Fort keeper Paul MacKay.
Daniel MacVicar’s first-half hat-trick put Oban Camanachd well ahead. Malcolm Clark, Ross MacMillan and Daniel Madej all added one each after the break.
The Premiership programme was plagued by travel problems when a bus breakdown denied Caberfeidh the opportunity to go top away to Kyles and a road closure prevented Lovat from reaching Skye.
Martin Stewart opened early for Kilmallie but Mid Argyll struck back with a vengeance through a hat-trick from Calum McLay and a goal apiece from Cailean MacLeod and Craig Anderson. Calum MacDougall netted Kilmallie’s second with the score at 4-1.
