Ireland edged Scotland 12-10 to record three victories in a row in the Mowi shinty hurling international at Bught Park in Inverness.

With just two minutes gone, Ruaraidh Anderson put Scotland ahead with a three-point goal before Lachie Shaw squandered a golden opportunity for a second with a fresh air shot.

Scotland went 4-0 up when Zander Michie grabbed a single point over the bar from the half-way line, and Anderson's second goal made it 7-0.

However, the Irish struck back with goals from Charles Dwyer and James Doyle.

Archie MacRae missed a second sitter for Scotland, then the best move of the match came when Anderson set up Daniel MacVicar whose shot was cleverly turned round the post by keeper Eoin Murphy.

Eoghan Connolly grabbed a single for Ireland to make the half-time score 7-7.

Michie hit his second single to which Shane O'Brien replied, and Connolly's second edged Ireland ahead.

Kevin Connolly's goal five minutes from time eventually sank Scotland, giving Ireland a four-point cushion which the Scots could not pull back, despite late singles from MacVicar and Donald Nixon.

In the earlier women's international between the shinty players and an Irish Camogie side, Scotland had a strong first half but were eventually overwhelmed 18-6.

It was first blood to Ireland with a three-point goal from Saoirse McCarthy and a point over the bar from Amy Quinlisk.

Megan Ralph and Beth MacLellan then struck back with goals to give Scotland a 6-4 half-time lead.

However, Ireland had by far the better of the second half with two more goals and a point from McCarthy, goals from Quinlisk and Meadbh McLoughlin and a single point from Sive Bryne.
