Scorecard

Ireland fell to a 154-run defeat by Bangladesh in the first of three ODIs in Mirpur.

Having been set a target of 253, the tourists were bowled out for 98, losing their final five wickets for 14 runs.

Sarah Forbes scored 25 for Ireland, with Laura Delany and Orla Prendergast the only others to reach double figures.

After Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat, openers Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque Pinky put on a partnership of 59 before the former was caught by Aimee Maguire off the bowling of Delany.

That brought Sharmin Akhter to the crease who top-scored with 96.

Ireland's response got off to a rocky start when successive Marufa Akter deliveries brought the wickets of new captain Gaby Lewis for five and Amy Hunter for a duck.

Forbes and Prendergast brought some stability to proceedings but the loss of the latter's wicket left them at 48-3.

Delany's 22 off 38 balls had edged them to 84-5 but, after she fell to the bowling of Nahida Akter, Ireland's tail collapsed to 98 all-out.

The second of the three ODIs takes place on Saturday.

Following the ODI series, the teams will meet in three T20 encounters.
