New Bayer Leverkusen boss Kasper Hjulmand will begin his tenure against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Friday - a game you can watch live on BBC Sport and BBC iPlayer (19:30 BST kick-off).

The sides have met 80 times in the Bundesliga without having played out a goalless draw, while Bayer Leverkusen have won the past five meetings.

Despite that, the sides have had completely different starts to the 2025-26 season.

Eintracht Frankfurt have won both their opening matches, scoring seven goals and only conceding two, whereas Leverkusen are yet to win in the Bundesliga this season and have already sacked former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Bayer Leverkusen have enjoyed recent success, winning the DFL Supercup last season after claiming a first Bundesliga title in the 2023-24.

However, that came under former manager Xabi Alonso.

This term, under Ten Hag, they won only one of their opening three matches, a 4-0 victory in the DFB-Pokal against fourth-tier SG Sonnenhof Großaspach.

Leverkusen also said goodbye to a number of key players this summer - Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong both left for Liverpool, while Granit Xhaka moved to Sunderland.

They responded by breaking their transfer record, bringing in attacking midfielder Malik Tillman from PSV and centre-back Jarell Quansah from Liverpool, both for 35m euros.

Eintracht Frankfurt are yet to drop points this season, winning their opening two matches in the Bundesliga and their first in the DFB-Pokal. They are currently eight games unbeaten in the Bundesliga, their best run under manager Dino Toppmoller.

Outsiders looking at Frankfurt might question where the goals will come from this season, losing both Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in January and then Hugo Ekitike in the summer to Liverpool, but Frankfurt have started with 12 goals in their opening three matches this season.

Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick will be looking to add to his two goals this season - both coming against Werder Bremen before the international break to put his side 3-1 up before the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Jarell Quansah will be looking to stop Frankfurt's attack, a team that is scoring four goals a match on average in all competitions so far this season. The English centre-back and his Leverkusen team-mates only have one clean sheet this term, in the DFB-Pokal.

Ritsu Doan was brought into Frankfurt's ranks from Freiburg earlier this summer for 21m euros. The Japanese right-winger impressed when he scored a brace and set up Frankfurt's third in their 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.

Frankfurt's Jean-Matteo Bahoya plays on the opposite flank to Doan, and like his counterpart has had a great start to the season. The Frenchman scored twice in Frankfurt's opening win against Werder Bremen and set up Doan's second last time out.
