Work to upgrade Scotstoun Stadium in advance of next summer's Commonwealth Games started on Monday, in what has been described as a "significant milestone" in preparations for Glasgow 2026.
The existing athletics track at the ground - which is the home of the Glasgow Warriors rugby team - is being ripped up this week and the temporary stands at either end dismantled.
A new world-class surface will be laid between now and September in what is the first tranche of redevelopment, with the Warriors returning to the stadium before work resumes next spring.
The second Glasgow Games in 12 years will take place from 23 July to 2 August, and will involve 10 sports across four venues. It is expected more than 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories will take part.
No public money will be spent on the work and the track will be gifted to the city after the conclusion of the Games, which will boast the Commonwealth Mile as its signature event.
"There will be an electric atmosphere at Scotstoun, given the calibre and scale of the athletics competition taking place there," Glasgow 2026 chief executive Phil Batty said.
"We can't wait to see Scotstoun come alive and the brilliant sporting moments that will take place in this incredible venue."
