Glenurquhart escape relegation with first win in 14

Glenurquhart gained their first Mowi Premiership win of the season at the fourteenth attempt with a 3-0 scoreline at home to Lochaber.

There were also victories for the top four when leaders Kingussie prevailed 4-1 away to Lovat, Caberfeidh swept hosts Newtonmore aside 5-2, Skye came away from Oban with a 2-1 defeat of Camanachd and Kinlochshiel swamped Kyles 6-1 at Balmacara.

The Ferguson Balliemore Cup final for shinty’s intermediate championship will be contested by Fort William, 6-1 victors over local rivals Kilmallie, and Glasgow Mid Argyll who defeated Inverness 4-0.

On a day when defeat could have confirmed relegation, Glenurquhart were out of Lochaber’s reach by half-time with goals from Alfie MacLeod, Charlie MacLeod and Ryan Porter.

James Falconer’s early opener for Kingussie was neutralised by Lewis Tawse, but a Dylan Borthwick hat-trick, with two just before half-time and one just on full-time, kept Kingussie top.

A trademark treble including an early opener from Craig Morrison was the backbone of Caberfeidh’s success at Newtonmore. Gavin McLaughlan and Cameron Grant were Cabers' other scorers while Newtonmore responded with Joe Coyle's double, his first an equaliser.

Archie Millar opened for Skye at Mossfield and Gary Lloyd equalised for Camanachd before John Gillies grabbed the island side's final-minute winner.

Kinlochshiel produced another MacRae monopoly with a hat-trick from Archie, two from Keith and one from John. James Pringle scored Kyles' late consolation.

At Caol, Fort William progressed to the Balliemore final with a Victor Smith hat-trick, a Lachie Shaw double and one from Graham Campbell. Kilmallie's Martin Stewart made it briefly 1-1.

Finlay MacMillan and Calum McLay, who netted a penalty, both scored doubles form Glasgow Mid Argyll in the other semi-final at Taynuilt.
