Newtonmore leapt to just a point off the top of the Mowi Premiership with their 10th consecutive victory, 3-0 at home to Kinlochshiel.

Iain Robinson struck for Newtonmore in the first minute, followed by Matthew Sloss and Declan Brannan, both also in the opening quarter, and then the goals dried up.

Beauly moved another step towards almost inevitable relegation when they lost 3-0 away to local rivals Lovat.

Sam Stubbs, Marc MacLachlan and a late strike from Greg Matheson saw Lovat through to a straightforward derby victory.

Kingussie still top the table on goal difference from Fort William who have played an extra game, with Newtonmore and Oban Camanachd a point behind, and the rest are now eight points adrift.

At the bottom, Lovat remain in the relegation zone but now only on goal difference behind Kinlochshiel, with Beauly a further six points in arrears with only eight left to play for.

The Ferguson Balliemore Cup final for shinty's intermediate championship will match favourites Lochaber, who defeated Col Glen 4-1, and Inveraray, who eliminated Inverness by the same score.

An early goal spree saw Lochaber 3-1 up after just 10 minutes through Shaun Nicolson, Ben Delaney and Finlay MacDonald, with Neilly McNaughton briefly pulling it back to 1-all.

Feast then turned to famine in advance of Max Campbell's penalty for Lochaber after 69 minutes.

Inveraray's goals came from a Lewis Montgomery double and Fraser Watt before a Jack Perry own goal. Charlie MacDonald equalised for Inverness within a minute of Montgomery's opener.

In the National Division at Drumnadrochit, Glenurquhart threw away a 2-0 lead, losing 5-4 to Glasgow Mid Argyll.
