Stephen Scullion and Kerry Harty earn Titanic 10K wins

Kerry Harty finished 80 seconds ahead of Breege Connolly in Belfast

Stephen Scullion and Kerry Harty clinched their expected comfortable wins in Sunday's Titanic Quarter 10K event in Belfast.

With no Africans in the field, Scullion had 78 seconds to spare from Joe McAlister as he took victory in 30 minutes and 47 seconds.

Harty won the women's event in 36 minutes and 13 seconds which left her 80 seconds ahead of Breege Connolly.

Diarmuid Grant and Lauren Scott were the third-place finishes.

Scott pipped Cathy McCourt for third in the women's event.

Scullion and Harty both earned £500 for their victories.

North Belfast Harrier Scullion now plans to head for a warm-weather training stint in Portugal with a view to preparing for a summer track season in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Scullion, a former AAA's Under-17 steeplechase champion, believes that the World Championship standard of eight minutes and 32 seconds is within his compass.

Harty also plans to compete in the steeplechase this summer and will have a high altitude stint in France in the coming weeks.
