Phillips Idowu and Teddy Tamgho set for Birmingham meet

World triple jump champion Phillips Idowu will take on France's indoor world record holder Teddy Tamgho at the Birmingham Grand Prix on 10 July.

A strong field will compete at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium in preparation for next month's World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Tamgho leapt a world-leading distance of 17.91m, beating Idowu in the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on 30 June.

"I'm hoping to be jumping some big 18m jumps soon," said the Frenchman.

"I have it within me I'm sure, and hopefully I can do this in Birmingham.

"The triple jump field is very strong at the moment and in my opinion this will only get better and better the more we compete against one another.

"Having guys like Phillips up against you really pushes and drives you and that's only good for me.

"I'm feeling in great shape and was really pleased with the way I jumped in Lausanne last week.

"It was nice to beat Phillips, but I'm sure he'll be desperate to come back and beat me in his home country, so if I'm going to win there, I'll have to jump even further."

Defending world indoor champion Tamgho's victory in Switzerland was only his third against Idowu in nine meetings.

Jamaican Asafa Powell, the fastest man over 100m this year, is also competing in Birmingham along with European indoor and outdoor 5000m champion Mo Farah, Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, European 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene and defending women's high jump world champion Blanka Vlasic of Croatia.
