Dawes expects high quality field for Guernsey marathon

Guernsey runner Steve Dawes says he expects a high quality field in this year's Guernsey Marathon.

The event has been won by Guernsey runners since its resurrection in 2009, with Dawes winning the inaugural race.

"I've heard there's four or five guys that can potentially run around 2 hours 30 minutes," he told BBC Guernsey.

"If that's true it'll be a pretty fast run and quite an exciting race," added Dawes, who won team half-marathon gold at the 2011 Island Games.

Dawes will be Guernsey's best hope for a win, with British number one Lee Merrien not competing as he prepares for the World Championships in Daegu.
