Dai Greene welcomes comparisons to Colin Jackson

Team Bath's Dai Greene says it is an "honour" to be compared to fellow Welsh hurdler and three-time world champion Colin Jackson.

Greene added a world title to his European and Commonwealth crowns when he sprinted to victory in the 400m hurdles in Daegu earlier this month.

"It's an honour to be compared to someone like him," the 25-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I grew up idolising people like him so to be compared to him is fantastic."

Greene added: "He's a great athlete and competitor and he's done so much for the sport - to just be mentioned in a similar context to him is amazing."

The Llanelli-born athlete believes his continued success over the past few years is down to his Team Bath coach, Malcolm Arnold, who also worked with Jackson during his career.

"He's won everything in the past and has coached Colin Jackson and John Akii-Bua.

"He's got a great track record and is a great person to have leading the way and I've got a lot of confidence in him because of what he's achieved."

Greene is now turning his attentions to preparing for London 2012 and he believes his achievements in Daegu have made him more confident he can succeed on the Olympic stage.

"I'm number one in the world at the moment and I expect to be here next year," he added.

"It's not unrealistic to think I'll be hanging a gold medal around my neck but it can be hard work and we've got 12 months to go and I can't become complacent.

"But I feel as though I'm in a good enough shape to reproduce that again next year and that will certainly be the aim."
