Jessica Ennis deposed as world champion

Jessica Ennis believes she will have to break the British heptathlon record to stand a chance of winning Olympic gold at next year's London Games.

The 25-year-old won the 2010 European Championships, external with a personal best of 6,823, eight points short of the British record held by Denise Lewis.

"I'll have to break the British record, definitely," Ennis admitted.

"I think it could take 6,900 points to win and that's going to be really, really tough."

Russia's Tatyana Chernova captured the world title held by Ennis in Daegu in July with a score of 6,880, while at the last Olympics in Beijing, Nataliya Dobrynska of the Ukraine triumphed with 6,733.

The world record is 7,291, set by American Jackie Joyner-Kersee at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.

Meanwhile, Ennis has revealed she will strictly limit her media work in 2012.

In an interview with BBC Sport last month, external she said she planned to stay away from the Olympic Stadium in the build-up to the Games.

And she added: "When I start competing I will just say no to all the media and other stuff.

"It will all be over before you know it and the main thing now is staying injury-free and being in a position to give yourself the chance on the day."
