Joint winners crossed the line together after completing the 85-mile Manx Telecom Parish Walk 2012.

Vinny Lynch and Richard Gerrard set a new event record after finishing in 14 hours, 42 minutes and 32 seconds.

Mr Gerrard said he never imagined he would ever be able to win the event, let alone set a new walking record.

He added: "It's amazing, absolutely amazing. To have won it with with a good mate like Vinny as well, I am absolutely delighted."

The 2012 event saw 203 people completing the 85 mile walk, the most since the event began.

The island's largest community sporting event is subject to standard race-walking rules and requires each participant to finish the course within 24 hours.

The circuit takes in all 17 parish churches around the island and finishes on Douglas Promenade.

Competitors have the option of pulling out at any stage but typical targets are Rushen after 19 miles or Peel after 32 miles.
