Laura Muir missed out on qualification for the final of the 1500m at the European Championships in Zurich.

The 21-year-old Scot finished sixth in her heat, while Great Britain team-mates Hannah England and Laura Weightman both progressed.

"That's pretty gutting," said Muir. "I knew it was going to be tough but I thought it should be more straightforward."

Britain's team captain Goldie Sayers qualified for Thursday's javelin final.

There was also safe passage for British 400m trio Martyn Rooney, Conrad Williams and Matthew Hudson-Smith into Wednesday's semi-finals.

Tiffany Porter, who will go in the semi-finals later on Tuesday, won her heat in the 100m hurdles, clocking the fastest time of the day with 12.69 seconds into a headwind.

Ashleigh Nelson, Desiree Henry and Asha Philip are through to Wednesday's semi-finals of the 100m.

In the 400m hurdles, Niall Flannery, Seb Rodger and Tom Burton qualified for the semis on Wednesday.

Muir's compatriot Beth Potter goes in the 10,000m final on Tuesday evening alongside Commonwealth bronze medallist Jo Pavey.

In the decathlon, Ashley Bryant is 16th after three events with 2400 points.

James Wilkinson failed to progress in the 3,000m steeplechase and Julian Reid missed out on the final of the triple jump.
