Teenager Tindle to face world indoor 60m champion Kilty

Cameron Tindle wins the 60m at the National Open

Scotland's Cameron Tindle will face World Indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty at the Sainsbury's Glasgow International Match on Saturday.

The Edinburgh AC 16-year-old secured his place in the Scotland team by winning the National Open last weekend.

Aberdeen AAC's Kelsey Stewart, 17, is in the women's 4x400m relay team to compete against Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France and Germany.

Nine of the 22-strong Scotland team appeared at the Commonwealth Games.

Guy Learmonth races in the 800m and Jamie Bowie is selected for the 400m, while Glasgow 2014 team-mates Kirsten McAslan, Sarah Warnock, Ray Bobrownicki, Diane Ramsay, Greg Louden, Grant Plenderleith and Zoey Clark will also feature for the team selected by Rodger Harkins, Scottish Athletics' director of coaching.

Tindle secured his place by winning the National Open last weekend, as did Myles Edwards at 1500m.

Glasgow's Josephine Moultrie, 24, will run the mile race at the Emirates Arena.

It will only be Scotland's second appearance as a separate team at the event, following their first entry a year ago.

The GB & NI team will be captained by Conrad Williams and, in addition to Kilty, includes former World Junior silver medallist Jessica Judd in the 1500m, 2008 World Indoor long jump silver medallist Chris Tomlinson and Commonwealth Games pole vault silver medallist Luke Cutts.

Harkins views the event as a great opportunity for the younger members of the team to gain experience against top opposition.

He said: "We don't compete all that often as a Scotland team internationally other than the Commonwealth Games, which of course only comes around once in a four-year cycle.

"So we have to look to take advantage of an event like the Sainsbury's Glasgow International and see if people can come up with a personal best or a season's best via the platform of competing against top athletes from big countries like Germany and France.

"Those promising youngsters have merited selection. We've also already seen some very good indoor performances by Scottish athletes this winter so that gives some of them something to try and improve on.

"For the athletics public in Scotland, I think it is a good opportunity to see people they know from our clubs and from national events competing in an international context."
