Kirsty Gilmour is looking to go one better than last year's silver medal at the European Championships in Denmark

Kirsty Gilmour beat fourth seed Line Kjaersfeldt to guarantee a medal by reaching the semi-finals of badminton's European Championships.

Dane Kjaersfeldt enjoyed home backing in Kolding but Hamilton's Gilmour, seeded seventh, prevailed 21-9 21-17.

Gilmour's victory means the Scot will secure at least a bronze medal to add to the silver she won last year.

She reached the last eight with a battling 21-11 19-21 21-18 victory over Germany's Fabienne Deprez on Thursday.

Scotland's Martin Campbell and Julie MacPherson were beaten 21-15 21-13 by the defending champions and top seeds Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Badminton Scotland has announced that Scots will play in all five events at the TOTAL BWF World Championships at Glasgow's Emirates Arena in August.

Kieran Merrilees and Matthew Carder have qualified for the 64-strong men's singles event with Gilmour one of 48 players in the women's singles.

In the three doubles events, which will all feature 48 pairs, four pairs of Scots have qualified.

Campbell and Patrick MacHugh are in the men's doubles while MacPherson and Eleanor O'Donnell and Rebekka Findlay and Caitlin Pringle will contest the women's doubles.

Campbell and MacPherson also qualified in mixed doubles.
