Great Britain women's EuroBasket 2015 campaign got off to a disappointing start with a 71-40 defeat by Russia in their opening group game.

GB centre Temi Fagbenle was also taken to hospital with an eye injury.

"There were still some real positives in that I thought we got better and we have got some rustiness out of our system," said GB boss Peter Buckle.

GB need a top 12 EuroBasket finish as they aim to secure further funding.

UK Sport scrapped its investment in 2014 and emergency funding was provided by SportEngland, which has set the top-12 target.

Great Britain player Azania Stewart broke down in tears when talking about the future for her sport in a recent BBC Sport interview.

The first phase of EuroBasket 2015 consists of four groups of five, with the top three progressing into the second round of two groups of six.

The top four then go on to the quarter-finals as the tournament takes on a knockout format.
