World Indoor Bowls: Laura Thomas wins first title for Wales

Laura Thomas became the first Welsh winner of the women's World Indoor Bowls title with a victory over 2014 champion Katherine Rednall.

Thomas, from Neath, surged to a 14-5, 9-9 triumph as she dominated both sets in Great Yarmouth.

"It means everything. To fly the flag for Wales is great," said the 29-year-old accountant.

It was a fine comeback from Thomas after a narrow defeat in the mixed pairs final on Tuesday.

Thomas racked up 24 scoring shots to her rival's 14, taking 13 ends while the English 19-year-old was restricted to eight.

Rednall said: "Laura didn't let me near her in the first set.

"She nailed the long jacks and I knew I was under pressure."
