David Price can get revenge for 'fluke' defeat - Lewis

Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has backed David Price to show February's defeat by American Tony Thompson was a "fluke".

Lewis has been mentoring the 29-year-old in the build-up to Saturday night's rematch at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

The defeat was the first of Price's career and was a blow to his hopes of fighting for a world title in 2013.

"He's in this fight for redemption. He wants to prove to the world this was just a fluke," Lewis told BBC Sport.

"And I think he has got the mental capacity to do that. He's very confident and focussed right now."

Lewis offered his help to Price following the defeat by Thompson and the Liverpudlian spent three weeks at a training camp with Lewis in Toronto in May.

Price believes victory in the bout against Thompson, 41, could be a significant moment in his boxing career.

The 6ft 8in fighter suffered a second-round knockout at his home venue, but claims he will be a stronger character for it should he get revenge.

"It's make-or-break time, isn't it?" Price said.

"If I get into the ring and do what I'm supposed to do, and what I am capable of doing, it's going to make me.

"And it can give me the belief I can overcome big setbacks and make sure they don't happen again."

Lewis retired from boxing in 2004 having held the WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO titles in his decade at the top.

And the 47-year-old Canadian-bred Briton, who stopped Vitali Klitschko in his last fight in 2003, claims the heavyweight division currently lacks a true champion.

He added: "I am the last great heavyweight. There's no-one who has achieved what I have achieved.

"I am the last undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

"When it comes to the Klitschkos, one brother has two titles, the other brother has two titles.

"I had them all - so they can never reach where I am at."
