Adams, Jonas, Whiteside and Marshall clinch European medals

Great Britain are guaranteed at least four bronze medals after Nicola Adams, Natasha Jonas, Savannah Marshall and Lisa Whiteside all reached the European Union Championship semi-finals.

Olympic flyweight champion Adams beat Abbygail Deekman of the Netherlands in a technical knockout on Wednesday.

Lightweight Jonas won against Poland's Karolina Graczyk, while bantamweight Whiteside beat Karolina Michalczuk.

World middleweight champion Marshall beat Poland's Lidia Fidura on Thursday.

Ireland's Olympic champion Katie Taylor also reached the lightweight semis.

Adams, 30, knocked her opponent down several times before Deekman was pulled out by her corner at the end of round two.

Now the Leeds boxer faces Sandra Drabik of Poland in the 51kg semi-finals on Friday.

"I'm definitely coming home with a medal which is a good feeling," said Adams. "But I want it to be gold."

Both Liverpool's Jonas, 29, and Preston's Whiteside, 27, were awarded unanimous wins against their respective Polish opponents.

"I had to treat today as my final," said Whiteside. "I had to battle it out, it came from the heart. I wanted to make sure I definitely got a medal."

Taylor, 27, moved closer to her fifth consecutive EU title with a fourth-round stoppage over Hungary's Benke Sara in the 60kg division. She will meet Finland's Mira Potkonen on Friday.

Marshall, 22, was making her first appearance back in the ring since losing her opening bout at the 2012 London Olympics.
