Stuart Hall was given the chance to regain the world title when Paul Butler vacated his belt

Darlington's Stuart Hall failed to regain the IBF world bantamweight title as he lost on points to Randy Caballero of the USA in Monte Carlo.

Hall, who lost the title to Paul Butler in July, was briefly on the canvas in the second round of the contest.

He felled Caballero with a low blow in the seventh, but the judges scored the fight 116-111 116-111 118-110.

Martin Murray beat Domenico Spada on a technical decision to retain the WBC Silver middleweight belt.

The St Helens fighter was deducted a point for a headbutt that opened up a cut above the Italian's right eye in the third round, but the referee stopped the fight in the seventh with the injury getting worse.

Murray, 32, was awarded the fight 67-66 68-63 69-67 by the judges, and seems set to face world champion Gennady Golovkin for the WBA middleweight crown.
