Kell Brook set to fight Frankie Gavin in London for IBF world title

Brook became the first British fighter to win a world title from an American in the USA when he beat IBF welterweight world champion Shawn Porter in California in August 2014

World welterweight champion Kell Brook is set to face Frankie Gavin after missing out on a fight with Amir Khan.

Brook's IBF title defence is earmarked for London's O2 Arena on 30 May against Britain's only world amateur champion.

"I'm not stupid. I'm not delusional. I'm going to have to perform out of my skin if I'm to win," said Gavin, 29. "But I'm going to be 100% ready."

Brook, 28, wanted a big-money date with Khan but the Bolton boxer has opted to fight American Chris Algieri next.

Gavin will earn the biggest payday of his career for taking on Brook and while acknowledging that he will be the underdog, believes he can win.

"I've definitely got it in me to do it," said the Birmingham boxer, who had been due to face South African Chris van Heerden on 9 May.

"I'm very confident Kell can be beaten and hopefully it's someone with my skills who will do it."

Brook successfully defended his IBF world welterweight title with a fourth-round victory over Romanian-born Jo Jo Dan in Sheffield on 28 March.

Unbeaten Brook was fighting for the first time since he was stabbed in the leg while on holiday in Tenerife.

Khan, a former world champion at light-welterweight, has said he may face Brook "inside the next 12 months" but has also expressed a desire to fight Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.
