Lee Haskins 'deserves' big pay day after Las Vegas frustration

Britain's Lee Haskins could yet return to Las Vegas for a big pay day after winning the IBF bantamweight title without throwing a punch.

Haskins took the belt from Randy Caballero, who was stripped of his title after weighing in over the limit.

But 32-year-old Haskins will now only receive a fraction of the purse agreed before the contest.

"He may get a chance to go back to Vegas," manager Chris Sanigar told BBC Points West.

"He might get a phone call tomorrow and he could be back on the plane.

"We will just be happy with a real massive fight, it may be against (Shinsuke) Yamanaka or going back to the USA, but the experience that Lee has got in the past three weeks from being over there is money in the bank."

The Bristol boxer's support team were shocked by Caballero's failure to make the weight and are in talks with the American's promoters about ensuring their expenses for the trip are covered.

Haskins is expected to return to the ring around March next year - but his next contest will definitely not take place in his home city.

"There at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, the buffet area is bigger than the arena we have got in Bristol, so what you can do," said promoter Jamie Sanigar.

"We are now the world champion so offers will come our way and please god we can get Lee Haskins some big major fights and major paydays that he deserves.

"Haskins was in the best shape of his life, he was in fabulous shape - mentally and physically we were ready."
