Hannah Rankin says world title opponent Alejandra Ayala has woken from an induced coma after being admitted to hospital for surgery.

The Scot retained her WBA and IBO super-welterweight titles with a 10th-round knockout on 13 May.

Mexican Ayala was treated in the ring afterwards before being taken to a Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"Our best wishes are with this brave, brave warrior," Rankin tweeted.

"We will be on hand to support her in any way we can."
