Commonwealth Games: Hannah Miley earns silver medal in 400m medley

Scotland's double Commonwealth swimming champion Hannah Miley earned a silver medal in the 400m medley final on the Gold Coast.

Miley won the event at the Delhi and Glasgow Games and was aiming to become the first Scottish woman to win three gold medals at consecutive Games.

The 28-year-old finished second behind England's Aimee Willmott.

"I couldn't have given any more. It was all about the race and not the time. It was one heck of a race," said Miley.

Willmott finished in 4:34.90 with Miley finishing 0.26 seconds behind and Australia's Blair Evans taking bronze.

"I'm still happy, it was so close," said the Scot. "I've said right the way through that it wasn't about the medal for me. I'm at my fourth (commonwealth) Games and to be on the podium for the third time running out of four, in the same event, is not bad.

"So, I'm really chuffed with it. Aimee [Willmott] pushed me right the way through; it's great to have that competitiveness with someone else who is so nearby.

"I had my head down for the last bit [of the race] so I couldn't see a thing. I said I'd give it all and leave everything in the pool and that's exactly what I've done.

"Quite a lot of people expected me to try to make history, and I gave it my best shot. I put myself in a vulnerable position to try to go for it and gave it my best shot. I'm happy with that, I came away with a medal."
