England men beat Wales 4-2 in a Commonwealth Games hockey Pool B thriller after Scotland were thrashed 12-0 by holders Australia.

Wales' Lewis Prosser cancelled out Samuel Ward's opener before two yellows reduced Wales to nine men at half-time.

Nicholas Bandurak restored England's lead with Wales levelling through James Carson when back up to 11 players.

But Phil Roper and Bandurak scored fourth-quarter goals to continue the hosts' winning start at the Games.

Paul Gannon's England top Pool B after two matches with Wales still in contention to reach the semi-finals.

Earlier, Jeremy Hayward scored four times for defending champions Australia, who top the world rankings - 18 places above Scotland.

After drawing 5-5 with New Zealand in a thrilling opening match, Scotland now face an uphill fight to reach the semi-finals.

Australia, who were playing for the first time, have won gold at every Games since hockey's debut in 1998.
