Kyle Hogg haul helps Lancashire turn screw on Hampshire

Hogg's previous best figures were 5-48 against Leicestershire in 2002

Kyle Hogg took a career-best 7-28 as Lancashire made Hampshire follow on at The Rose Bowl on day two.

The hosts were skittled for 133 in reply to the visitors' 328, losing their last seven wickets for 35 runs.

Only Jimmy Adams (35) and Johann Myburgh (28) resisted as Hogg, in his first Championship game of the summer, ripped through the middle order.

Hampshire made a better fist of it second time around, closing 32 behind on 163-5, with Benny Howell 68 not out.

But the day belonged to Hogg, who became the first bowler to take seven wickets in an innings this season.

He had previously taken five wickets in an innings once in his career (on his debut in 2002). But he wreaked havoc as he claimed the best figures by a Lancashire bowler since Peter Martin's 8-32 against Middlesex at Uxbridge in 1997.

Hogg made the initial breakthrough by removing Howell for a third-ball duck, before Oliver Newby claimed the wickets of both Adams and Myburgh to leave Hampshire 73-3.

Hogg then took centre stage, taking six wickets for six runs in 28 balls, before Saj Mahmood finished off the hosts by dismissing Kabir Ali.

Lancashire captain Mark Chilton had no hesitation in enforcing the follow-on and Hampshire soon lost both Adams and Myburgh.

But Mahmood (3-32) removed Neil McKenzie (35) and James Vince (39), before dismissing Danny Briggs with the last ball of the day to leave leaders Lancashire firmly in control and within sight of victory within three days.
